Ok, for those of you who haven't heard or the ones who have, but would like a full, detailed story...here it is! We recently finished our basement. We went through the Carpet Giant (aka - Carpet One). They are super cheap with good carpet, BUT LOUSY CUSTOMER SERVICE! I don't think I have ever been so frustrated in my life, this in comparison to potty training, potty training is MUCH less frustrating! Ok....here we go.....
SO, to begin, we were working through Steve. First of all, he is very nice, but come to find out he is very much a FLAKE! We arranged with him not once, not twice, but three times to finally come out and give us a bid. The first time, he was a no show. SO IIIIII called him a few hours later to find out what the crap was happening. He said he was the only one in the store and wasn't able to get away. I was a little irritated, but I realize some things like this happen. No big deal. So bid was rescheduled for 2 days later. 2 days later, no show again! IIIIII call HIM (again), to find out what happened. He gives me the same story and then proceeds to tell me that we were certainly going to get a great deal on this carpet. Again, I was irritated, but decided to let it slide, I have more things to be worried about. Ok, finally we had arranged for him to come on a Friday morning at like, 7 AM because we were leaving out of town. Wow, low and behold he actually shows. He took the measurements and I had Bryce take care of the rest while I went shopping for our trip. Bryce gave back the carpet sample and told him which carpet we wanted.
Ok, now its time to finally order the carpet...all the painting is done. I went in to order and signed the papers, ASSUMING and trusting that all was correct. Bryce later called Steve and he had the adasity to tell US to CALLl him to see when OUR carpet has arrived in THEIR store. Time for carpet layers...they were great...and then they came to tell me that the carpet was ordered short for the main part of the basement. The two rooms is a different carpet and all that was done, but they would have to reorder the big room. Blah...fine, I have a little more time before I had to have the appraiser come through to complete our refinance. Mind you, little by little, the volcano is boiling. Not to mention, it took numerous phone calls to even get a phone call back from this guy.
OK, 2nd piece ordered and carpet layers are back. They do all their measurements and.....drum roll please....the carpet is short again! Good thing I was holding Reagan at the time this news was laid out, or um, not sure what would have happened. Bless her heart, she probably prevented a murder. Ok, the volcano has erupted now. Through discussion with the carpet layers, I had decided that they will lay what they have and go get some of the 1st order to fill in what is missing. Time is running real short and we needed to close on our refinance within a week and the appraiser was scheduled to come the next day. Note: they cannot consider it a final appraisal without the carpet or some of the carpet missing. Hmm, I wonder why? Could it be that the basement wouldn't ACTUALLY be FINISHED! UGGH. Anyway, with all the coordinating with Steve, he knew we were under some time constraints.
Now, the carpet layers were so sweet they wanted me to come take a look at the carpet. I am so glad they did, because it was the WRONG COLOR! After all that I have dealt with up to this point, I was NOT surprised! I immediately called the manager of the store...I was done working with Steve. I ended up getting the Assistant manager, Mai. She was super nice and we were able to work out what needed to be done. Once the carpet was laid, this is what I found!

So I called Mai back and let her know I was sooooooo not satisfied. These two pieces are supposed to be the same...but clearly they are not. There was a different feel, look, and even pattern to it. So she said she would come out the very next day between 12 and 2 to take a look at it, take a few pictures, and decide what to do.
The next day between 12 and 2: MAI NO SHOWED! I waited until 3, desperately trying to withhold my frustration, anger, and disgust! For the 3rd time, IIIIIIIIII called the store to find out what is happening. Mai proceeds to tell me that they are super busy and there was only 4 people there to help. OK, I LOST IT! After I went off on her she said she would be at my house within a half hour. At this point, I didn't believe her. Twenty minutes later, she was there. WOW, I am astonished! I was very short with her, uttered not 2 words to her, showed her to the basement and the problem. She is trying desperately to make small talk with me, but Tut, no way! After she was finished taking pictures, I told her I am sorry I am being a beast, but I was done at this point. Not only is the carpet the wrong color, but ALL the run-around, and the crap I was put through. Believe me, I am leaving out half the story, for your sake! I then told her that I expect the new piece to be ordered and MATCH the rest of the carpet and installed within 10 days. I told her I am finished with them and I am not even going to worry about the freaking color of the carpet. It did look ok, but the other would have looked better. Thats beside the point....at this point! Needless to say, the carpet was installed 7 days later.
Here is the finished product in our basement:
